Minor Arcana

The Minor Arcana is divided into four suits --- Spears, Shields, Swords and Cups, with each suit possessing four court cards: Kings, Queens, Pages and Knights. They can show either circumstances, or people who are significant in the questioner's life. It is important to remember that a king could also represent a woman who is in a position of authority or heavily biased towards her masculine side, while queen could represent a man who plays a nurturing role in the questioner's life.

The Suit of Swords
These are also known as Blades and Spades. This suit represents the element of fire symbolising energy, action, conflict and will power. Swords are associated with Autumn and reflect darkening days and hot colours. Star signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

The Suit of Cups
These are also known as Cauldrons, Vessels and Hearts. This suit represents the element of water symbolising the subjective world of inner experiences, such as feelings, emotions and sensations. Cups are associated with summer. Star signs are Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio

The Suit of Shields
These are also known as Pentacles, Disks, Coins and Diamonds. This represents the element of earth symbolising material and financial conditions. Shields are associated with winter. Star signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

The Suit of Spears
These are also known as Batons, Wands, Rods and Clubs. This represents the element of air symbolising the state of mind and its ideas and creativity. Spears are associated with Spring and reflect growth and fertility. Star sign are Aries. Leo and Sagittarius
