Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word that means
Universal Life Force.
REI = Universal Spirit or
essence KI = Life
Energy, Light or Chi
It works for animals and plants and of course, all of us.
Distance is not an object either as Reiki can be practiced both at close
quarters and across the other side of the world - this bit is called absent
healing and can be delivered even through time.
Reiki was probably practised thousands of
years ago but in modern times it was Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan who rediscovered it
in the 1800's. after being passed down form master to student Reiki hit the
Western world in the 1960's.
Reiki
does not have a specific religion as it encompasses all types physically.
mentally and of course, spiritually. So don't think you have to go to church or
the temple to be a Reiki healer because absolutely anyone with the desire to
heal others and themselves, can be a Reiki healer. With practise and dedication
you can reach master level in just a few short years. As with anything of this
nature, actually performing Reiki regularly is the only way you will learn about
its power and become a true master at it. The
3 Grand Masters of Reiki who restarted it all were Dr. Mikao Usui himself, his
dear friend Chijiro Hayashi, a naval officer, and Mrs. Hawayo Takata, a cancer
sufferer. There are as many
as 30 different kinds of Reiki practised in the world today. These include Seichem
Reiki, Shamanic Reiki, Tibetan Reiki, Karuna Reiki and various version of
Usui's own Reiki teachings.
