The TAROT is a deck of 78 cards split into 2 main groups - Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. Contained in the Tarot are the 52 cards we commonly use to play cards with today plus an additional 4 cards known as Pages. These are known as the Minor Arcana cards. The additional 22 cards are known as the Major Arcana cards and they depict the fundamentals of life..

The word Tarot is French but its origin is probably from the Italian TAROCCHI a game played in the 14th century. However, there are a number of opinions as to their origin. The first decks appeared in any quantity in the late 18th century and by the early 1900’s Tarot was enjoying great popularity. Today there are many wonderfully illustrated decks and like anything where there is choice, any budding or experience practitioner will be drawn to a deck that "fits" their particular character.
